The Athenaeum Rectory is all that remains of an
extraordinary school for girls which flourished from 1852 to 1904. This
school taught the girls everything a well educated young man would have
learned at the time, including physics and calculus. The Moorish Gothic
architecture of the Rectory sets it apart from all other buildings in the
area. The interior of the home has been newly renovated and boasts
beautiful flashed glass with gold dust in its construction, a lovely cast
iron fountain, and an original chandelier. Changing exhibits are featured
in the home throughout the year. |
